I’ve had a pair of these without hobnails for three years, worn every day for work in a workshop. They’ve been resoled and heeled every year and are as solid now as when new – DMs used to fall apart after six months at work. I’d say the sizing runs a little large.

Had a pair of these with a plain leather sole for a few months now. They are the best fitting boot’s I’ve ever owned and definitely one of the sturdiest. They are significantly beefier in the flesh and give a real sense of ruggedness (certain American workwear brands look dainty in comparison). The stitching on the sole has worn down but then the brass screws hold the soles together as tight as when new. They run a little large in length but are wide which helps considerably if you have flat feet. Overall i’m very happy – enough to have ordered a similar pair already.

My 78N, Farmers Boots arrived in November 2016. I live in the country side so I walk on every kind of surface. The hob nails grip well on most surfaces except the obvious such as our terracotta kitchen tiles! The boots were comfortable as soon as I put them on. As some one new to triple leather soles, walking in them was a revelation. They don’t bend like rubber soles,so they don’t crease and they don’t pinch, and at each step you are gently rolled forward by the curve of the sole. This literally feels like having a “spring in your step.”
They are sturdy, comfortable, and made by real hands. I love them.

These boots are probably the most comfortable and well fitting footwear I’ve ever owned. Very happy with them.

Order these in the spring and they arrived to the day 13 weeks later in time to take them with me on a scything course with the National Trust for Scotland. Incredibly comfortable and stood up well to two very wet days in meadow. Obviously not as dry as Gortex lined but with care and attention I had dry enough boots each day. Now, apart from weekend strolls and gardening mostly they are seeing a once a week commute into Cambridge where the comfort well excedes the ‘skytie’ tendency on granite sets and polished marble floors – open hillsides are easy but care is needed if you decide to go supermarket shopping. My only regret is only having one pair as for outdoor work I would recommend alternating each day, to avoid having to force dry a wet pair and damaging the leather. For me I’m going for a pair of vibram soled hill shoes as walking on fully sprung soles (ie with rocker) is such a joy. Great fit and easy walking but you will want a second pair.

I have a pair of these made in black leather for use in military reenactment. They are superb, very comfortable to wear when on your feet all day. Thoroughly recommended.

I’ve had a pair of these boots without the hobnails for 9 years now. Found the original sole too hard and no grip at all, so had a clobbler take the outer sole and most of the heal off and replace with a Vibram sole. He charged me 40 quid but well worth it. Treat them with Hydrophane. They are without question the best pair of boots I’ve ever owned and regularly get asked where I got them.
